What do you do when your cell phone falls in water!!??!!?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091206165218AAe6Mwc

whatever you do immediately take your phone battery out. the reason why our phones stop working after its in the water is because you try to turn it on again without letting it dry and the battery shorts the phone. now u have to be patient this si the ONLY WAY. u have to put ur phone in a bag of rice..i know this sounds crazy but the rice sucks up all the moisture..leave it there for 2-3 days...WITHOUT turning the phone off..that is crucial. and then try to leave it on something warm like a tv...i did this and i turned my blackberry on and it works PERFECT. i swear it was even sitting in water for over 30 secs. GOOD LUCK..

and whatever you do..DO NOT CHECK TO SEE IF IT WORKS...wait at least 2.5 full days. good luck

YOUR TIME- Balancing Time and Life
I believe that each of us must periodically review how we manage our time. As we near the end of this year I hope these tips below will help you better manage your time and life.

List Goals: Create a list of both professional and personal goals to help you focus your time and energy on things that matter the most to you.
Use technology to manage your time: Utilize the benefits of a Smart Phone or PDA to help you manage your time by allowing you to have immediate access to your schedule which will prevent you from overbooking yourself.
Review schedule regularly: To ensure that you are balancing your time and life review your schedule weekly to help you stay on track of your professional and personal goals.
Plan time for fun: As you plan your week make sure to plan time for fun (movies, dinner with friends, roller skating) to live a balanced life.

Jasmine Tea Granita with Lavendar Honey and Spearmint

Jasmine Tea Granita
with Lavendar Honey and Spearmint

Headhouse Farmers' Market shopper Alexis Siemons submitted this refreshing recipe, perfect for the last warm days of the summer season. Look for spearmint and honey at your Food Trust farmers' market; jasmine pearls are available for purchase like loose tea at many of the city's tea shops.

Serves 2.

5 cups water
4 teaspoons lavender honey
7 teaspoons jasmine pearls
2 handfuls spearmint leaves

Fill a tea kettle with cool water and heat it on the stove until the water begins to steam from the spout. Place 7 teaspoons of jasmine pearls into the teapot's infuser. Pour 5 cups steaming water over the jasmine pearls and steep in the teapot for 3 minutes.

Remove infuser from the teapot. Add 4 teaspoons lavender honey to the tea and stir to combine. Add a handful whole spearmint leaves. Let the flavors mesh as the temperature cools, about 5 minutes.

Pour the cooled tea into two ice cube trays and place in the freezer. Sip the remaining tea (about two cups), while the granita mixture freezes.

When the liquid has frozen, remove the ice cube trays from the freezer and let them thaw for a few minutes. Blend the ice cubes to a shaved ice consistency, scoop the icy goodness into two bowls and pop them back into the freezer for 1 minute. While the granita chills, finely chop remaining spearmint leaves. Before serving the granita, drizzle with honey and sprinkle chopped spearmint leaves atop the granita to add a burst of vibrant sweetness.

Is it Important to be Organized

I think its very important to be organized thru out your entire household..
I have found a very good individual to follow regarding being organized her Name is: Janet Taylor the name of her business is: Totally Organized. check out her website:
She also has a newsletter that you can subscribe to which is a wonderful source of good useful information.

Here is an example of one of her articles:
YOUR OFFICE - Creating Systems That Work
Files
Recently after working with a client I realized they had several systems and none of them worked. If the system you created last month or last year is not helping you maintain order in your office, use the steps below to get organized at work.
  1. Evaluate Existing System-Are you wasting time looking for items or spending money to purchase items you cannot find? Do you miss deadlines? If you answered yes then your existing system needs to be revamped.
  2. Plan New System-Observe colleagues that are organized to see what may work for you. Some suggestions: organizing documents in binders or having a designated place for project information. The goal is to develop a system that will help you easily retrieve information and files no matter where it is stored.
  3. Purge-Once the new system has been developed purge and shred documents and files no longer needed.
  4. Implement New System-Remember to clearly label, alphabetize and color code to easily retrieve items.
  5. Maintain System-Schedule time regularly to file information, 3 hole punch documents that are filed in binders and remove items from files that are to be archived or destroyed.

Pumpkin Pie Receipe Getting ready for the fall
This perfectly fall pumpkin pie recipe from chef Robert Bennett of Classic Cake in South Jersey calls for your favorite unbaked pie crust. If you have one in the freezer already, this dessert is as easy as, well, pie -- if you remember that pumpkin doesn't mean jack-o'-lantern. Ask your farmer for sugar pumpkins, crookneck squash or other good baking pumpkins. Serves 8. 1 medium sugar pumpkin or crookneck squash1 tablespoon vegetable oil9" pie crust, unbaked1/2 teaspoon ground ginger1/2 teaspoon cinnamon1/2 teaspoon salt4 large eggs, beaten1 cup honey, warmed slightly1/2 cup milk1/2 cup heavy whipping cream Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut pumpkin in half and remove seeds. Lightly oil cut surface of pumpkin halves, and place cut side down on a pan that has been lined with foil and lightly oiled. Bake pumpkin until the flesh is tender when pierced with a fork. Let stand until cool enough to be handled. Scrape pumpkin flesh from the peel, and mash by hand, or puree in small batches in a blender or food processor. Increase oven heat to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In large bowl, blend together 2 cups pumpkin puree, spices and salt. Beat in eggs, honey, milk and cream. Pour filling into unbaked pie shell. Bake pie for 50 to 55 minutes, until a knife inserted 1 inch from edge of pie comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

Energy Efficient Incandescent Light Bulbs

http://www.girlawhirl.com/green/energy-efficient-incandescent-light-bulbs.aspx

Could something as simple as a light bulb really make that big of a difference in the fight against global warming? The answer is a resounding YES. Girlawhirl's well aware that using compact fluorescent bulbs can reduce the carbon emissions of her household and save her money, so she's been on the bandwagon for a while now. But the Obama administration's upping the national ante, and with good reason…
Here's what the President recently said about light bulbs: “The first step we're taking sets new efficiency standards on fluorescent and incandescent lighting. Now I know light bulbs may not seem sexy, but this simple action holds enormous promise because seven percent of all the energy consumed in America is used to light our homes and our businesses. Between 2012 and 2042, these new standards will save consumers up to $4 billion a year, conserve enough electricity to power every home in America for 10 months, reduce emissions equal to the amount produced by 166 million cars each year, and eliminate the need for as many as 14 coal-fired power plants.”

There's definitely plenty of power behind a little light bulb. And with that in mind, there are more energy efficient options these days than ever before:

Compact Fluorescents: Girlawhirl converted her whole apartment to a CFL-zone a couple of years ago and here's what she noticed: bulbs don't always last as long as advertised and it takes about a minute after turning them on for them to reach full potency and these bulbs contain mercury so she's got to dispose of them properly.

LEDs: These sound so good on paper, using so much less energy than both incandescent and CFLs, but they're really expensive – and it's hard to find LEDs that are designed as replacement bulbs. When Girlawhirl needed some new lighting under the countertops in her kitchen she went with LEDs and there are plenty of Christmas tree and outdoor options as well.

Re-vamped Incandescents: Here's the bright spot (pun intended!)… Just when she thought that plain old incandescent light bulbs were on their way to extinction, Phillips has introduced the Halogena Energy Saver bulb – re-vamped to use about 30% less energy. In addition, they don't contain mercury, and they light up immediately when turned on. They also emit a nice glow that's often lacking in CFLs. While they're not quite as efficient as CFLs or LEDs, they're a new option that's a good compromise.

There's a great selection of energy efficient light bulbs at thefind.com.

Letting Go Of Attachment

Letting Go of Attachment
posted by Isha Judd

Detachment is essential on the path to inner fulfillment, but it has often been confused with abandonment. The general opinion is that we must renounce the things that give us worldly pleasure in order to experience detachment, but attachment is not the same as possessing. You can have possessions without being attached, just as you can live in a cave with nothing, and be attached all the same! Attachment is about letting go of need, of the fear of loss; ultimately, it’s about finding fulfillment within ourselves, so that we no longer depend on the things or people around us for satisfaction. When this happens, you can fully enjoy the things you have, but without the fear of losing them.
What are you attached to? We are all attached to something. It might be our children, our partners, our material possessions, our jobs. Or it might be to something more subtle; our image, our ideas, our beliefs and convictions. If you ever find yourself trying to hold a position, or defend an idea, you can be sure you are attached.
Simply becoming aware of what you are attached to is the first step towards letting go. When you are conscious of an attachment, you will be able to identify the need that is attached to it, and the fear that is activated every time your attachment is threatened in some way. When this happens, go inwards and allow yourself to feel the anxiety or fear. By feeling this emotion, you will move closer to healing the emptiness that ultimately leads you to seek external fulfillment.
We think the things around us are our source of happiness, but when we let go of attachment, we discover the boundless joy that lies within. This inner experience of fullness, or love-consciousness, brings with it true freedom, for we no longer depend on that which is ever changing in order to feel complete.
Isha Judd is an internationally renowned spiritual teacher and author; her latest book and movie, Why Walk When You Can Fly? explain her system for self-love and the expansion of consciousness

And with the busy days of Spring before us, it becomes all the more important to get the sleep we need.

Don’t be robbed of a good night’s sleep! Use our strategies to get the rest you need.
Is a good night’s sleep the first thing you sacrifice when life gets too full and busy? If so, this is your wake-up call: You’re not just sabotaging your next day’s performance (news to none of us), but you’re actually harming your health.
“Sleep deprivation is a serious medical risk, but few people are aware of that,” says Joyce Walsleben, PhD, an associate professor of medicine at NYU School of Medicine. “You have to pay as much attention to your sleep as you do to eating a nutritious diet.”
A spate of studies is turning up clear links between inadequate sleep and obesity, as well as several related conditions: heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. The good news is that with adequate shut-eye, these conditions may be reversible, our experts say. Drawing on studies about what robs us of quality sleep, they have devised strategies that can help you get the rest you need. Here’s a lineup of the most insidious sleep thieves–and the latest recommendations on how to bar them from your bedroom forever.

Drop Milk?
posted by Mel, selected from Natural Solutions magazine Aug 13, 2009 7:02 am
By Sally Lehrman, Natural Solutions
The dairy industry portrays milk as an essential part of a good diet and our best bet for staving off osteoporosis. Should you buy it?
Denise Jardine had loved dairy products since she was a kid. You could even say she shaped her day around them. She’d start out with cream in her coffee and low-fat milk on her cereal. Lunch might include cheese or yogurt, and instead of sipping soda, she quaffed milk. Often she’d finish off the evening with a little ice cream.
Not an unfamiliar scenario to many Americans, no doubt. Every year, we down more dairy products: Sales are at their highest since 1987, reaching an annual total of 594 pounds per person. And the chorus of voices urging us to eat still more just got louder: The federal government’s new food pyramid for 2005 pumps up recommended dairy intake to three cups of milk per day, compared with two in the earlier version.
But evidence is accumulating that milk and milk products may not be the wholesome, ideal foods we think they are. A growing number of activists, nutritionists, and heart and bone specialists say the health benefits of dairy have been vastly oversold. The science simply isn’t there, says Amy Joy Lanou, the director of nutrition for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C. “Milk has a lot of calcium and other nutrients, but there is a large body of evidence that it may not be the best nutritional package for some people–maybe a lot of people.”
What’s more, dairy may actually be causing health problems in many people. Digestive problems plague the up to 50 million Americans who are lactose intolerant. And whole milk and cheese, of course, are notorious for being loaded with saturated fat, which not only adds to waistlines but also threatens our hearts. But that’s not all: Recent research has shown that some milk contains trace amounts of rocket fuel–hardly a wholesome substance. And though the evidence isn’t conclusive, some studies suggest that drinking lots of milk may raise the risk of ovarian and prostate cancers.
With so many clear risks and unanswered questions, why do doctors and the U.S. Department of Agriculture keep pressing us to drink up? Lanou points to a basic conflict of interest: The USDA is charged with promoting agriculture and encouraging better nutrition. Too often the former takes priority over the latter.
For instance, about 80,000 farmers across the country contribute a portion of their profits to a mandatory program, overseen by the USDA, that funds research, promotion, and trade. Its marketing campaigns have helped pump up individual dairy consumption by 11 percent over the past 20 years–so much so, in fact, that a 20 billion-pound milk surplus was wiped out even as production increased.
Other federal programs, such as the National School Lunch program and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, boost milk consumption, too. In fact, school districts actually lose their federal reimbursement for meals if they don’t include milk in every menu. WIC policies highlight milk and cheese among the foods participants receive. Even chocolate milk qualifies, while yogurt, soy, and rice milk do not.
Lanou and other experts believe this dairy industry bias is reflected in the new food guide pyramid. “I went to all the dietary guideline meetings and heard the discussion,” Lanou says. “The conflict of interest is so much a part of the process, it’s deeply internalized.”
No one sums up these concerns as succinctly as Walter Willett, chair of the Harvard Department of Nutrition, who believes that the dairy industry–not public health–benefits most from the guidelines. “We should have strong evidence of safety before promoting radical dietary changes,” Willett wrote in comments to the press about the USDA’s recommended three glasses of milk a day. “Dairy is certainly not an essential component of a healthy diet as the guidelines would have us believe.”
Here’s the latest on the claims about dairy that the industry would like you to swallow whole. Better bodies? In an ad that featured an hourglass female figure with a measuring tape draped around her waist, the National Dairy Council advised, “Burn more fat and lose more weight.” As evidence, the council–which is the marketing arm for the dairy industry–pointed to a small but well-designed study in the journal Obesity Research. When University of Tennessee researchers cut back food intake among 32 obese people, those who ate lots of dairy lost about ten more pounds than everyone else. Not only that, most of the fat they lost was belly fat, the riskiest type.
To say that the dairy industry ran with this finding is an understatement. It now claims that eating three to four daily servings of milk, cheese, and yogurt makes a better weight loss strategy than just cutting calories.
No such luck, says Jean Harvey-Berino, the chair of nutrition and food sciences at the University of Vermont. While eating cheese and yogurt would seem like a pretty painless way to lose weight, and some other studies do show a correlation between dairy intake and weight loss, when Harvey-Berino attempted to replicate the Tennessee study last year in a slightly larger number of people, she got very different results: After 24 weeks on a structured program of diet and exercise, both the high-dairy and the low-dairy participants lost the same amount of weight. “I don’t think dairy provides any more benefit than following a standard calorie-restricted diet and exercising,” she says.
In fact, it adds a significant amount of bad fat to our diet. In a survey of nearly 18,000 people in the mid-1990s, California Polytechnic State University researchers found that dairy foods made up about one-fifth of total dietary fat and cholesterol, and one-third of the saturated fat that people eat. These fats contribute to both heart disease and diabetes, along with insulin resistance, a prediabetic condition that brings problems of its own

Living Green what does it mean to you

http://www.articlesbase.com/environment-articles/what-does-living-green-mean-to-you-457771.html

I think everybody has the same basic concept of what living green is. Basically it’s making the earth healthier so that we, the inhabitants, can live healthier. But beyond that what does it mean to you on a personal level? Are your reasons for living green humanitarian or personal?

What are some of the personal reasons people might choose for living green? Well, finances for one. Gas prices are very high right now and getting higher. Switching to biofuel or another fuel alternative might help cut down on carbon emissions, but it can also keep more money in your pocket. Using those energy efficient compact florescent bulbs may be a part of living green, but they also save you money on your energy bill.

Another personal reason for living green can be health. Followers of living a green life stress giving up or reducing meat consumption. This is also a health issue for someone with high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems. Green household products are good for the environment, but there also good for health conditions like allergies.

Ego can be a personal reason for living green. Living green is really big and getting bigger so showing people that you have conformed to the green way of life can you some pats on the back. It can be a big boost to the ego when you are being congratulated for something you’re doing.

Living green is very important in the longevity of this planet. So whatever reason you have chosen to embrace living green, personal or humanitarian, just doing so helps us all.

Key Behaviors to Maintaining a Green and Healthy Home

Most people don't give much thought to how their behavior can impact the sustainability, health or energy efficiency of their homes. I was speaking with someone last night who I know to be a pretty green minded person and he was a bit surprised by some of the ideas I'm going to highlight here. Granted he's not a building scientist or a builder but it showed me that it's time to shine a light on this subject.

Living Green & Buying Organic Food Products for Cheap

http://money.aol.com/top5/general/five-generic-products-to-buy-3

Organic food If you're looking to trade up to healthier organic foods without inflating your monthly grocery bill, private store labels are your best bet to save, says Teri Gault, founder of the Grocery Game thegrocerygame.com, a program that helps consumers match manufacturers' coupons with supermarket sales. "Certified organic is certified organic," she says. "There's no need to go for the brand name."
Making things easier, most big chains have an organic line -- Meijer has Meijer Organics, for example, while Publix has GreenWise Market and Safeway has O Organics. You'll pay more than you would for conventional generics, but up to 50% less than brand-name organic products. Click here and here for more tips on how to save on organic foods.

Your Time - Conquering Procrastination

YOUR TIME- Conquering Procrastination
It is possible to conquer procrastination. I have learned when I feel the urge to put something off for another day, week or month to do one thing no matter how small to get started. Today, I encourage you to do the same. Do one thing to get started. Following are tips that have helped me conquer procrastination and I hope will help you as well.

Estimate how long a project will take and then double the time.
Break project down into managable tasks: Write guest list, plan menu, purchase paper goods.
Listen to your moods:I write articles in the morning when I am more alert.
You don't have to start at the beginning: Write list of advisors needed for business plan.
Set small deadlines for yourself: August 30th have guest list for party.

Your Office - Effective and Efficient Workspace

YOUR OFFICE - Effective and Efficient Workspace

Todd Freeman, Partner of Cubicles Direct and asked him to provide suggestions to help us be more organized.

Q. Todd, what steps can a person take to make their workspace effective so they can be more efficient in their daily tasks?
A. Janet, I have 6 suggestions to make workspaces efficient:
Conquer Clutter-Remove the clutter from your desktop.
Increase Workspace-If you need more space consider getting an under the desk mount CPU Holder or a mobile unit and/or a mobile under the desk- fax/printer stand.
Position Keyboard Ergonomically-Keyboard arm with a swivel/tilt mouse pad which mount under the work-surface and gives the user the ability to position his/her keyboard and mouse at a height and angle which is ideal for that particular user and at the same time free up desk space.
Increase Desk Space-If your computer is at a 90 degree corner where your desk meets the bridge or return consider a corner filler which creates a 17 to 28 degree angle which will create a space that is much more comfortable and efficient to work in.
Good Chair Mat-A good chair-mat is very important as it gives the user the ability to move around their work-space effortlessly. A cracked chair-mat is worse than no mat at all as it actually hinders mobility and can cause injury.
A Good Chair-The most important piece of furniture for a person who is expected to sit for more than 1 hour is a good chair. Look for a quality chair made in the United States that is rated for 250 lbs. but is made to handle a lot more. Todd added that chair designers believe that a chair has to respond and interact with the person sitting in it and do that automatically without requiring the person to manipluate a host of buttons and knobs.
For more information on efficient space design and quailty office furnishings contact Todd at Cubicles Direct.

HOBOKEN, N.J. – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says a fifth body has been recovered from the wreckage of a helicopter-plane crash above the Hudson River.
Divers and police boats are searching for pieces of the submerged helicopter and small plane in the water off of Hoboken.
Nine people died in Saturday's collision, including three members of a Pennsylvania family in the private plane. Five Italian tourists and a pilot from New Jersey were in the helicopter.
It's the city's worst air disaster since a 2001 plane crash in Queens killed 265 people.

Apple Introduces New 15th and 13inch Macbook Pros

Right out of the gate, Apple introduces us to the new 15- and 13-inch Macbook Pros. Not only are these made in the same unibody aluminum case that the rest of the Mac lines are available in, but it's faster and still lighter than most models on the market and will keep you working longer than before: the new lithium ion batteries will last up to seven hours and 1,000 charges before the battery starts to show its age.
